ELECTRIC POWER SYSTEM

  PREPA has a modern electric power system that serves the entire Island. This system is comprised of the power generation, transmission and distribution phases, that gives electricity to 1,388,478 clients.
 
   
  Generation
 
The energy is produced by five main power plants: Costa Sur, Complejo Aguirre, Palo Seco, San Juan and Arecibo. The installed capacity is 4,393 MW.   98% of the total production has petroleum as its source.        
 
  Transmission
 
The transmission system is made up of 2,182 miles of 230 KV transmission lines, 115 KV, and 38 KV sub-transmission lines. It has 174 transmission centers.
 
  Distribution
 

The distribution lines add up to close to 27,838 aerial miles and 1,076 underground miles. Part of the system is composed of 308 substations and 27 technical offices.
